UNM Women's Golf Opens Spring with Wildcat Invitational

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The New Mexico women's golf team will begin Spring competition when they head to Tucson, Ariz., this coming Monday Feb. 25, to compete in the 2008 Wildcat Invitational. The 16-team field will begin their practice round Sunday, followed by 54 holes of competition with 18 holes slated for each of the three days beginning Monday on the 6,400 - yard, par-71 Arizona National Golf Club Course.

Of the 16 participating squads, seven are ranked among the top 10 teams in the nation according to Golfweek. Those among the top 10 included No. 1 UCLA, No. 2 Duke, No. 3 Arizona State, No. 4 USC, No. 7 Auburn, No. 8 Arizona, and No. 9 California. The Lobos are listed at No. 25.

Also competing this weekend are the following: No. 15 Oklahoma State, No. 18 Pepperdine, No. 19 Vanderbilt, No. 22 Stanford, No. 31 Texas, No. 36 BYU, UNLV, and Washington rounding out the field.

The Lineup - New Mexico has not yet released the lineup of who will be competing in the upcoming Wildcat Invitation. Final competition for the top spots will conclude this week and will then be announced.

Hooters Match Play Championship - The Lobos last competition was Nov. 6, 2007, in Kissimmee, Fla. The Lobos as a team finished in 10th place at the Hooters Match Play Championship Tournament.
